  • Bree, a surname originating in the Channel Islands off the coast of France. The name appears first in the early 1500's as Braye. The name evolved into Bre, and the accent was later dropped by many families. Its origin prior to its appearance in the Channel Islands is uncertain.
  • Bree, a surname common to the province of Ulster in Ireland and to County Sligo in the province of Connacht. Famous Brees include Andrew Bree.
There is no documented connection between the Brees of Ireland the Brees of the Channel Islands, though there has been much speculation. Bree was ranked 52688 in a survey of frequency of surnames in the 1990 United States federal census.
