Boxcar Children

The Boxcar Children is a book series by American writer Gertrude Chandler Warner. Originally published in the 1940s, the books told the story of four orphans (Henry, Jessie, Violet and Benny), who come to a small town and settle in an abandoned boxcar. Within the first book, their rich Grandfather finds them and brings them to live with him. They insist that he bring the boxcar, and so it is taken and brought to the house along with the children. Throughout the rest of the books thereafter, the children uncover and solve various mysteries, often whilst travelling. Warner wrote the first 19 books in the series, and when she died, the series was mantained by a variety of authors. It is still in production today, 24 years after her death.
