book type

The book type is a small section of data in the start-up section every CD / DVD to indicate the format of the disc. This piece of data informs the disc driver what kind of disk is being loaded. If the driver does not support the book type specified on the disk it will report a disk error. This field is also referred to as the "compatibility bitsettings". There are several book types known at the moment:

CD
CD-R
CD-RW
DVD
DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+-RW
