BonkBonk Bonk Bonk Bonk Bonk was the large-headed, bald, caveman mascot for NEC's Turbo line of consoles. However, his games eventually saw release on other consoles as well. His favored form of attack was the headbutt. He starred in four games: A CD-ROM containing Gate of Thunder, Bonk's Adventure, and Bonk's Revenge was included with the purchase of a Turbo Duo, packaged with merely a slipcover and manuals. His first game, Bonk's Adventure, was released in 1990, published by Hudson Soft and developed by Atlus Limited and Red. The game was a side-scrolling platformer, a genre that was very popular at the time, especially for mascots (Sonic the Hedgehog and Mario both vaulted to mascot status via this genre). Bonk's Adventure was very well received by critics, winning several awards in 1990: "Turbografx-16 Game of the Year" by Game Players Magazine, "Most Exciting New Theme of 1990" by Electronic Gaming Monthly Magazine, "Special Achievement Award" from OMNI Magazine, and "Best Action Video Game of 1990" by Video Games & Computer Entertainment Magazine. Despite this, the TurboGrafx suffered from poor sales, and Bonk was eventually canned in the mid-1990s, in favor of the suspiciously familiar Air Zonk and the arguably pathetic Johnny Turbo.
Bonk (or bonking) is also slang in England for shag. Bonk Business Inc is the name of an artt collective and an imaginary company from Finland http://www.bonkcentre.fi/. Bonk is also an audio compression program that operates in both lossy and lossless modes.
