The estuary of the

Thane Creek
. In lies the historical island of
Elephanta
. To the east is the
Jawaharlal Nehru Port
and to the west is the city of
Mumbai
(formerly Bombay). The
Gateway of India
with its jetty for Elephanta is the most important tourist destination, followed by the
I.N.S. Vikrant
maritime Museum.
