Bombala

Bombala is a town and local government area in the Monaro region of south-eastern New South Wales, Australia. It is located approximately 500 kilometres south of the state capital, Sydney, and 80 kilometres south of the town of Cooma. The name derives from an Aboriginal word meaning "Meeting of the waters". The town lies on the banks of the Bombala River. Town population is approximately 1500. The town is the administrative centre of the Bombala Shire, which has a population of more than 3000, and covers an area of 3945 square kilometres. Principal industries of the area include grazing and timber. Tourism is also growing in importance to the local economy. Bombala is located at the terminus of an abandoned railway line.
