Bognor Or Bust

Bognor or Bust is a UK television panel game, on the subject of news and current affairs. Produced by 4DTV for ITV, the show conventionally gives contestants the opportunity to win prizes, yet is comedic in style. It combines members of the public and celebrities on the same panel. The show is hosted by comic actor and presenter Angus Deayton. His hosting of this show is largely viewed as his next step after being ousted from Have I Got News For You. Designing the style of the show to be similar to that of HIGNFY may have been deliberate. Before the game begins, the two contestants pick two out of a group of four 'celebrities' to play on their 'team'. In Round 1, Deayton asks a series of questions on thw week's news, to be answered on the buzzer. At the end of the round, there is a quick recap of the scores. The viewers are then shown a picture with something missing, and are left to guess what it is during the break. In Part 2, the missing object is revealed and Round 2 commences. The player in the lead chooses one of two pictures that serve as (not very good) cryptic clues to a certain category. The category is revealed and a number of questions are put to their team for a certain amount of time. After that, the other team gets the other category. At the end of that round, the player with the most points wins and gets to play for the star prize holiday. The destination for the holiday is revealed, and a question is asked based on something taken out of a newspaper from that country, with two possible answers. They can now confer with all four celebrities at this point. By answering the final question on the show correctly, the winner is awarded a paid-for exotic holiday; however, if the final question is answered incorrectly, the contestant is instead given a trip to the seaside resort Bognor Regis in West Sussex, from which the name of the show is derived, and a random member of the audience wins the exotic holiday. In the context of this show, Bognor is not seen as an upmarket resort and is therefore a satirical booby prize.
