Blue Springs is a town located in Barbour County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the town is 121.

Geography

Blue Springs is located at 31°39'51.588" North, 85°29'45.308" West (31.664330, -85.495919). According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 7.5 km² (2.9 mi²). 7.5 km² (2.9 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 121 people, 49 households, and 36 families residing in the town. The population density is 16.2/km² (41.8/mi²). There are 54 housing units at an average density of 7.2/km² (18.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 99.17% White, 0.83% Black or African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 49 households out of which 28.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.3% are married couples living together, 6.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.5% are non-families. 20.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.47 and the average family size is 2.84. In the town the population is spread out with 22.3% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 31.4% from 45 to 64, and 10.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.8 males. The median income for a household in the town is $38,000, and the median income for a family is $38,250. Males have a median income of $27,000 versus $21,500 for females. The per capita income for the town is $17,224. 4.3% of the population and 6.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 0.0% of those under the age of 18 and 33.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
