Blackmore's Night

Blackmore's Night is a band led by Ritchie Blackmore (electric and acoustic guitars) and Candice Night (lyricist and lead vocals). A change of pace from Blackmore's previous contributions to rock and roll, the group plays Renaissance-inspired music with some additional modern effects; the overall effect is that of Renaissance folk rock. The group performs at Renaissance Fairs and Renaissance Festivals, as well as in stand-alone concert tours in appropriate venues including 'castle tours' of Europe, where they perform in historic surroundings for an audience dressed largely in period costume. Their first CD Shadow of the Moon was released in 1997 in Europe and a year later in North America. They followed it up with live concert tours and a second album, Under A Violet Moon, in 1999. A third album, Fires at Midnight, followed in 2001; unlike the previous albums, this one contains a good deal of electric guitar alongside the acoustic instruments. Their most recent album is Ghost of a Rose (2003). The band has been successful enough to inspire a tribute band called Renaissance Night.
