Black Ribbon

The black ribbon is, like similar activist ribbons, worn or displayed as a political statement.

Grief for the March 11 attacks

The black ribbon was a symbol of popular grief in Spain after the March 11, 2004 Madrid attacks. It was worn on garnment and also pinned on the Spanish flag (notably by politicians during the campaign for the 2004 legislative election, taking place at the same time).

RPG sub-culture

In the Role-Playing Game culture, a black ribbon is symbolic of discriminated roleplayers. It is an effort to show the world role-playing games aren't demonic rituals nor related to demons or devils.
