Bishop Tuff
The
Bishop Tuff
is located in the
Owens Valley
, southeast of
Mammoth Lakes, California
. It is a
welded tuff
that formed 760,000 years ago as a rhyolitic
pyroclastic flow
during the eruption that created the
Long Valley Caldera
. The
Bishop Tuff
covers nearly 2,200
square kilometers
of area, with deposits ranging from 150 to 200
meters
in thickness.
