Birdy (Bicycle)

The Birdy is a folding bicycle designed by Riese und Mller. Available since 1995, it was the first fully suspended folding bike. Unlike the Brompton for example, it is more sporty to ride. The frame is made of aluminium, the wheels are 18 inches in diameter. Weight is between 10 and 13 kg depending on configuration. Some of the possible drivetrain components are: 8 gear internal hub, eight gear derailleur, 24 gear Shimano Intego or even the Rohloff hub. Available accessories are mudguards, mountain bike tyres, different racks, bags and lightning sets. The Birdy folds in several seconds to 79 x 59 x 36 cm - it is quite bigger than the Brompton, but nevertheless small enough be used as combined transport with train, car, boat etc. The Birdy is distributed:
