Birago Diop

) was a
Senegalese
poet
and
storyteller
. He studied
veterinary medicine
at the
University of Toulouse
, and worked as a veterinary
surgeon
for the
French
colonial
government in several
West African
countries. Throughout his civil service career, he collected and reworked
Wolof
