Biffo

Biffo is an insulting slang term for residents of county Offaly in Ireland. It is most commonly applied by the satirical media to Brian Cowen, the Irish Minister for Finance. The term is an acronym of Big Ignorant Four-letter-expletive From Offaly. When questioned on the meaning of his nickname, Cowen responded with "Big Intelligent Fellow From Offaly", showing that he did know the true origins of it. No obvious link has been found between Mr Cowen and the comic character Biffo the Bear.
