Bernard Of ChartresBernard of Chartres (Bernardus Carnotensis) was a twelfth-century scholar and administrator. His date and place of birth are unknown, although it is believed that he is of Breton origin. He died in approximately 1130, and is thought to have been the elder brother of Thierry of Chartres. Bernard is recorded at the cathedral school of Chartres before 1117, and was chancellor until 1124. Most of what we know about his work is through the writings of John of Salisbury and William of Conches, though a commentary on Plato has been attributed to him.
