Berdyansk

Berdyans'k (Бердянськ; Russian Berdyansk) is a port city in southeastern Ukraine within its Zaporiz'ka oblast'. Between 1939 and 1958 it was known as Osipenko. The city was founded in 1827 and sits on the northern coast of the Sea of Azov. It was occupied by German forces during World War II. As of 1996, it had a population of 135,000 people.
