Beqaa

Beqaa is a governorate in Lebanon with a population of 750,000 inhabitants.

Geography

The Beqaa governorate covers an area of 4,429 km². Bqaa is the primary center of Lebanon's agriculture. The Beqaa governorate forms the main geographical extension of Lebanon and it lies between the Western and Eastern Lebanese Mountain ranges. Three rivers run through Bqaa: the Litani River, the Asi River, and the Jordan River.

Beqaa valley

Beqaa is also an area in Lebanon, separating Mount Lebanon and Anti-Lebanon. At a narrow 4 km (south) and 20 km (north) wide, and 125 km long, the Beqaa Valley is known as the "bread basket of Lebanon" for its fertile land.

Climate and tourism

The temperature ranges from -10 to 35 C throughout the year. Bqaa receives heavy rain and snow during the winter. The villages of Zahle, Baalbeck, Niha, Anjar, Keb-Ilias, Kfar Zabad, Karaon Dam, Shtura and Furzul are the area's main tourism destinations. The governorate of Bqaa lies on the ancient route between Lebanon, Syria, and the rest of the Arab world. The governorate is known for its wine industry, summer festivals, and its cuisine.
