Ben Jones

There are at least two famous men named Ben Jones. Ben Jones (born August 30 1941) is an American actor and politician. He was born in Tarboro, North Carolina. He attended Woodrow Wilson high school in Portsmouth, Virginia. He then attended college at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina, graduating in 1964. Jones then embarked on an acting career. He is best known as Cooter on the successful television series The Dukes of Hazzard, in which he participated during its entire run, which lasted from 1979 to 1985. He has also participated in several other TV shows, several movies and over 80 theatre productions. Following the end of the Dukes of Hazzard, Jones entered politics. He is a Democrat. In 1986, he unsuccessfully ran for a seat in the United States House of Representatives from Georgia. He ran again in 1988 for a House seat from Georgia, and that time won. He was reelected in 1990, but was defeated in 1992. Since his time in Congress, Jones has returned to acting, become a well-known political essayist and written one play. In 1998 he broke with most Democrats by asking President Bill Clinton to resign during the attempt to impeach him. Jones is still active in the Democratic Party however, and ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the United States House of Representatives from Virginia in 2002, becoming one of very few recent American politicians to seek elective office in more than one state. Ben Joseph Jones (August 5, 1924 February 10, 2005) was a Grenadian politician. He was a lawyer before being elected to Parliament as a member of the New National Party in 1984. In 1984 he began serving as foreign minister in the government of his party's leader, Herbert Blaize. When Blaize died in December 1989, Jones became prime minister of Grenada. He served until March 1990, when his party lost elections. He also gave up his position as foreign minister at that time, but was reappointed later that year. Though his party was out of power, Jones continued serving as foreign minister until 1991.
