Beldegg
In
Norse mythology
, King
Beldegg
of
North Saxony
was a son of
Odin
. "Beldegg" or "Beldeg" is the ancestor name stated in the
Anglo-Saxon Chronicle
for the
Anglo-Saxon
kings of England. They are supposed to stem from the sons of
Odin
that, according to
Snorri Sturluson
's
Edda
, were set to rule the
Saxon
territories of
Germany
when
Odin
in
Ynglinga saga
moved north, first to
Fyn
and
Odense
and then to
Svitjod
. In the Scandinavian version of this tradition,
Beldegg
is the same as
Balder
. See also
Gaut
for the Edda listing of the ancestors of Odin.
