Beersel

Beersel is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant. The municipality comprises the towns of Alsemberg, Beersel proper, Dworp, Huizingen and Lot. On January 1st, 2004 Beersel had a total population of 23,214 (11,319 males and 11,895 females). The total area is 30.01 km² which gives a population density of 773.63 inhabitants per km². Beersel is perhaps most famous for the "Kasteel van Beersel" or Beersel Castle, built between 1300 and 1310 by Jan II, the Duke of Brabant, as a defense for Brussels. They also manufacture a form of cheese own called Beersel's Basket Cheese and their own beer named, of course, Beersel.
