Beecher, IllinoisBeecher is a village located in Will County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 2,033. It was founded in 1870 and named for Henry Ward Beecher. It is located on the old Chicago and Eastern Illinois Railroad and the Dixie Highway. The nearest towns are Crete, Illinois, 7 miles north; Grant Park, Illinois, 6 miles south; Peotone, Illinois, 8 miles west and Cedar Lake, Indiana, 8 miles east. Geography Beecher is located at 41°20'43" North, 87°37'32" West (41.345178, -87.625528). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 5.5 km² (2.1 mi²). 5.5 km² (2.1 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 2,033 people, 830 households, and 590 families residing in the village. The population density is 372.0/km² (964.4/mi²). There are 876 housing units at an average density of 160.3/km² (415.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 98.03% White, 0.00% African American, 0.15% Native American, 0.44% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.34% from other races, and 1.03% from two or more races. 1.77% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 830 households out of which 29.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.4% are married couples living together, 8.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.9% are non-families. 26.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.45 and the average family size is 2.96. In the village the population is spread out with 22.8% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 25.0% from 25 to 44, 27.0% from 45 to 64, and 18.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 91.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.2 males. The median income for a household in the village is $51,250, and the median income for a family is $60,625. Males have a median income of $43,563 versus $26,786 for females. The per capita income for the village is $23,454. 4.0% of the population and 3.0% of families are below the poverty line.
