Beacon Schools Programme

The Beacon schools programme was established in England in 1998. Its aim was to identify high performing schools, in order to help them form partnerships with each other and to provide examples of effective practice for other schools. It involved approximately 266 state-funded schools of all types. Beacon schools provided services like seminars, work-shadowing and consultancy to help other schools improve areas such as management, parent involvement, gifted students, and measures to prevent bullying.

The programme is to be phased out by August 2005. In secondary schools it will be replaced by the Leading Edge Partnership programme.
