Battle For WesnothBattle for Wesnoth is a turn based strategy computer game. The game is free software and open source . It runs in BeOS, FreeBSD, Linux, Mac OS X, NetBSD, OpenBSD, Solaris and Windows . "Battle for Wesnoth" is set in a fantasy environment, where players can build an army of different kinds of fighters from races such as elves, dwarves, orcs, trolls, and more. It is a turn-based strategy game on a hex grid with single-player campaigns and multi-player matches. Each unit has strengths and weaknesses, their defense is based solely on the type of terrain they are on, making terrain and placement of units very important. Different types of attacks (pierce, impact, fire, etc.), a day night cycle that alternately favors lawful and chaotic units, and other special abilities also add to the strategy. Throughout the campaigns units can advance to higher level counterparts and become more powerful. Part of the fun of the game is developing your own army of advanced units as you play through the campaigns. Though the Battle for Wesnoth is a product of many programmers, artists and designers, it was originally designed by David White, who is the lead developer for the project. He based it on the Sega Genesis games Master of Monsters, and Warsong (aka Langrisser). He wanted to create a free open-source strategy game that had very simple rules, but had a strong AI, and was challenging and fun. External links
