Battle Dress Uniform

A battle dress uniform (BDU) is the military uniform worn into combat, as opposed to 'display' dress uniforms worn at parades and functions. BDUs may be either plain fatigues or in camouflage colors.

UK

The main battledress of the British army from 1937 to the late 1960s was a khaki coloured wool uniform. In other climates different materials and colours were used.

USA

In the US Army and US Air Force, BDU refers to a specific style of combat uniform. BDUs are in the process of being replaced by the new ACU style combat uniform. The United States Marine Corps uses MARPAT BDUs.
