Battle Cry is a novel by American writer Leon Uris, published in 1953.

Plot

It is the story of a group of young men who enlist in the Marines during the beginning of World War II. The characters in the book come from a variety of backgrounds, including an "All-American boy," a Indian from a reservation, and a poor Hispanic from San Antonio. The role of the narrator is filled by the character of a tough veteran sergeant. He tells the story of how this rag-tag group came together as a fighting unit, as well as describing the battles they fought in, including Tarawa and Guadalcanal. The film version of this novel was made in 1955, directed by Raoul Walsh and written by Uris. The film stars Van Heflin, Aldo Ray, James Whitmore, Tab Hunter, Fess Parker, and Aldo Ray.
