Base Camp

In climbing, a base camp may be set up to provide the starting point for a multiple day or week assault on climbing a mountain. Base camp is used to store supplies that are carried to camps higher up on the mountain. On major mountaineering expeditions spanning several weeks or more, an advanced base camp (ABC) may be setup higher on the mountain. Supplies from the main base camp are carried to ABC from which camps higher up are stocked. See also: List of climbing topics
