Barton HillPart of Marlborough College, a British boarding school in the county of Wiltshire, Barton Hill offers accommodation to male students between the ages of 13 and 18. Each year group consists typically of 13 boys making the house 60 in size plus or minus 5. Organization Barton Hill is renowned for its unique management and running, largely a reflection of the Housemaster's style. Community and extended family are qualities imbued with much importance from the start. Hierarchy Current Housemaster Doctor M. Ponsford is in charge of all aspects of the house. His contract is due to expire in 2006, whereupon he will have completed 15 years as Housemaster. The house has a Resident House Tutor (RHT) Mr T. Ridley. A system of non-residential tutors operates within the house during the evenings. The domestic management of the house is run by Mrs S. Cripps, who operates a team of domestic staff during the day. There is a Head of House, Head of Sport, Head of Shell, House Sacristan and Library Proctor, who are typically chosen from the Upper Sixth, the final year. There are also a group of House Captains who manage the evening running of the house together with tutors. Housemaster The Housemaster and his wife, Mrs S. Ponsford, are held in high esteem by the pupils, both inside and outside of the house according to current pupils at the school. Controversy The house was caused some embarrassment when several members were discovered by the police, who were running an operation, in the early hours of the morning. Whilst in no way breaking the law members were breaking a rule of the school and house. Since this incident it is rumoured that magnetic locks have been put on all doors in the house.
