Barry Horne

Barry Horne was an animal rights activist who died in Worcester hospital in the UK on 5 November, 2001 following a series of hunger strikes made in protest. At the time he was several years into an 18-year prison sentence for planting incendiary devices. Barry Horne went on hunger strike after the Labour Party did not launch an independent inquiry into vivisection when they came to power in the 1997 UK general election. Many animal rights supporters voted for them as they had promised to do so. At his funeral, activists unveiled a large banner saying "Labour lied - Barry died".
