Barren Island, New York

Barren Island, originally an island off the southern end of Brooklyn NY, in Jamaica Bay just opposite Rockaway Peninsula in Queens NY. Today, owing to landfill, it is now connected to the Brooklyn mainland. Floyd Bennett Field, in part, takes up part of once was Barren Island, as does Gateway National Recreation Area.
