Banu Jalaf

Family that ruled Huesca and the region called Barbitanya (Barbastro) from about 802 to 862 and only Barbitanya from about 862 to 882. The first ruler was Jalaf Ibn Rashid (802) that reconstructed the old roman city of Barbastur, modern Barbastro (but then a samall village called Midyar). The city castle was the centre of the muslim domain in the region. Jalaf deceased before 862. In this year the government of Huesca was conferred to the Banu Qasi family, and Musa ben Galindo was designated ruler. The son of Jalaf, Ibn Jalaf, ruled then Barbitanya.
