Aweida

King Aweida (born in Boe, died at Gabab channel) was a royal man in Nauru. Before Nauru became under white rule, it was governed by the king who made the laws which were enforced by their own chiefs. When Germany came on Nauru, took it over, and annexed the island to German New Guinea, Aweida could keep his sovereignty as king and he remained the chieftain of the Nauruan people. Otherwise, little is known about him. In the photograph, King Aweida is wearing the top hat. His wife, the queen, is wearing a white robe.
