Away Mission

When a primary mission exists, any missions created during that primary mission that does not take place on the main ship or base is considered an away mission. This usually indicates that some portion of the crew is going to be detached from the main crew and sent somewhere to accomplish a goal that has been deemed strategically advantageous for all those involved. In Star Trek, or other Science Fiction movies, away missions usually follow these understood guidelines: 1) Some significant portion of the cast must go. Usually, these people are also the people who run the ship. 2) If someone has the possibility of dying, you must bring a red shirted person. 3) The above person will die. 4) You will barely escape the away mission with your life. 5) You will always come back from the away mission. (Which begs the question if #4 should be voided by this statement because if you will always get back, then did you barely manage to?) 6) The mission does not have to be strategically advantageous if it helps the storyline. 7) You have to bring along some convoluded philosophy about not interfering with the local culture: yet by your presence, you have already interfered. 8) If something desperate happens, the orbiting ship will no doubt have a systems failure. 9) A cast member can die; if they are questing for more pay (getting off the show).
