AvieniaiAvieniai in Lithuanian mythology are gods twins identical to Latvian Dieva deli. Symbols and pictures of Avieniai are used in folk architecture, especially on the top of the roof. Placed on the roof symbols of Asvieniai protects the house from the bad spirits. Sometimes Avieniai are represented as pulling Saulės carriage through the sky. Avieniai are usually displayed as horses (Lith. Avienis, masc. singular, noun, nominative horse), sometimes like red roosters (symbols of fire). Avieniai are betrotheds of Saulė (Sun). One of them was black horse sunrise, and one afterglow. Avieniai have some similarities with Ūsinis (in Latvian mythology Usins), the god of horses. Alternative names: Saulės irgeliai (Horses of Sun), Dievo Sūneliai (Sons of God) See also: Dieva deli (Latvian mythology)
