AversivesAversives are negative stimuli used to induce behavior changes. According to behaviorism, aversives can mold and change behaviors, particularly in animals. In humans, aversives are historically ineffective in changing behaviors; instead effective behavior change is most often caused by positive reinforcement (i.e. rewarding) of desired behaviors.
