Audre LordeAudre Geraldine Lorde (February 18, 1934 in Harlem, New York City - 1992) was a multi-faceted writer and activist. In her own words, she was a "black lesbian, mother, warrior poet". Her parents were from Grenada. She died of cancer in 1992 after a 14 year struggle. She is famous for her poetic works (18 published books), for which she became State Poet of New York from 1991-1993, including: She cofounded "Kitchen Table: Women of Color Press" in 1980.
