Attack Of The CybermenAttack of the Cybermen is the first story of the 1985 season of Doctor Who, the series' 22nd. It stars Colin Baker in the title role. Synopsis The Doctor and Peri discover a distress signal that brings them to contemporary Earth. They discover that Lytton has been stranded on the planet and is seeking to escape. To do so he has made an alliance with timetravelling Cybermen and they capture the TARDIS. All are transported to the Cybermen's planet Telos, where the Cybermen plan to hijack Halley's Comet and crash it into Earth in 1985, thus saving the first Cybermen planet, Mondas. The Doctor and the natives of Telos, the Cryons fight back and eventually defeat the Cybermen. In the process the Doctor discovers that Lytton was actually working for the Cryons, however it is too late to save him. Notes - The serial is credited to "Paula Moore"; however behind that name lies one of the most confused and controversial authorships in the entire series.
- Authorship copyright on the serial is divided between "Paula Moore" (real name Paula Woolsey) as the registered author, Kit Pedler and Gerry Davis as creators of the Cybermen, Eric Saward as the creator of Lytton and the BBC who hold the copyright on the series elements.
- Several different accounts offer wildly differing versions of who actually authored the story. Most agree that series fan and continuity advisor Ian Levine suggested a number of plot elements. At the one extreme it is suggested that the story was authored by series script-editor Eric Saward, with or without substantial input by Levine, with Woolsey acting as the story's author so as to prevent problems with the Writers' Guild who objected to script editors writing for their own series. At the other extreme it is suggested that Woolsey originated the story but it was heavily rewritten by Saward in his capacity as script editor.
