Athena (Band)

Athena is the name of a Ska band from Turkey. The band participated in the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest, in Istanbul -- the first such concert to be a 2-day event and the first in which all 36 participating countries voted, by public phone vote. Athena, performing their song For Real took 4th place in this, the forty-ninth Eurovision Contest, in a field of 23 competing musical groups. The contest was won by the Ukrainian entrant, Ruslana Lyzhichko, with the song Wild Dance, which won 280 points. Some commentators suggested that, true to Eurovision tradition, her victory could be attributed more to her dance routine and revealing attire than to the quality of the song.
