Atef Muhammad Ebeid

) is the former Prime Minister of
Egypt
. He was appointed on
October 5

1999
, replacing
Kamal Ganzouri
, who resigned. Economic growth slowed and the price of living soared during his term, though he managed to transfer Egypt from a statist economy to a more capitalist system within a few years. Ebeid resigned on
9 July
2004
and was replaced by
Ahmed Nazif
