Association Of International Educators

The Association of International Educators or AIE was founded in 1948 as the National Association of Foreign Student Advisers (NAFSA). It promotes the exchange of students and scholars to and from the United States. It states that its members share a belief that international educational exchange advances learning and scholarship, builds respect among different peoples and encourages constructive leadership in a global community. Its members number nearly 8,900 individuals from all 50 US states and 84 countries on more than 1,800 campuses. The embassies and consulates of more than 160 countries participate in NAFSA activities as international affiliates. NAFSA engages in research related to international studying. In November 2004, a survey conducted by five higher education organisations led by the Association of International Educators found that nearly half of the 480 colleges surveyed reported a decline in new enrollments of overseas graduate students compared to last year, while just under a quarter reported an increase.
