Asim Ferhatovic

Asim "Hase" Ferhatović (born January 24, 1933 in Sarajevo; died January 25, 1987) is widely regarded as the best football player in the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the 1950s and 1960s Ferhatović led FK Sarajevo to great heights, and became the club's most famous player, scoring 198 goals in 422 games. His retirement was one of the most important events in Sarajevo sports history, and the local newspapers ran the headline Jedan je Hase! (There is Only One Hase!) in his honour on that day. A bosnian rock band, "Zabranjeno Puenje" (in translation: No Smoking), wrote a song in honour of Asim Ferhatović called "Nedelja kad je otio Hase" (in translation: The Sunday when Hase left) Sarajevo's Olympic stadium in Kosevo district is named after Asim Ferhatović.
