Ashwin Sood

Ashwin Sood is a Canadian musician. He is the drummer in Sarah McLachlan's band, and is also McLachlan's husband. Sood also plays percussion, loops, keyboards, and keyboard bass. Born in Birmingham, England in 1968, Sood grew up in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He started playing the drums at age seven, after attending a Count Basie concert. In high school, he played with a band called Bahnood. He graduated from the California's Musicians Institute (Percussion Institute of Technology). Sood has produced songs and albums, including those for McLachlan, Bass is Base, and Lilith Fair. In the past, he has played with Lava Hay and Mae Moore. He met Sarah McLachlan while on tour with Lava Hay in the early 1990s. She asked him to play for "I Will Not Forget You" on her Solace CD. Sood dated McLachlan's best friend. Later, McLachlan and Sood became involved and this caused a rift in McLachlan's relationship with her best friend for several months. In interviews, McLachlan has said that "Adia" addresses this situation. On February 7, 1997, Sood and McLachlan were married in Negril, Jamaica, and on April 6, 2002, their first daughter, India Ann Sushil Sood, was born. The family lives in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
