shogun
of the
Ashikaga shogunate
who reigned from
1442
to 1443 during the
Muromachi period
of
Japan
. Yoshimasa was the son of the 6th
shogun
Ashikaga Yoshinori
. Yoshikatsu became
Seii Taishogun
at 8 years of age a year after the
assassination
of his father Yoshinori by
Akamatsu Mitsusuke
in the
Kakitsu Rebellion
of
1441
. However, Yoshikatsu died from disease in the next year and was succeded by his younger brother, the 8th shogun
Ashikaga Yoshimasa
, in
1449
.
