Asher GinzbergAsher Ginzberg (1856-1927). Best known under his pseudonym, Ahad Ha'am, (one of the people) Ginzberg became noted as a philsopher to the contribution and revival of the Hebrew language and Hebrew literature. He also played a significant role in the modern Jewish nationalist movement of Cultural Zionism. Although he moved to Israel for the last five years of his life, he emphasized the need to create a culturally unified people before the move to Palestine. In his writings, he advocated schools and centers to teach Jews around the world their history, ancient traditions, and language. A secular man from Eastern Europe, Ginzberg felt that a common religion was not enough to unify the Jewish people. He was opposed to political Zionism, advocating instead the establishment of a Jewish cultural center in Palestine. Ginzberg Ginzberg Ginzberg
