Ascend Communications

Ascend Communications was a Alameda, California based manufacturer of communications equipment. The MAX access servers and Pipeline remote access devices were one of the most popular ISDN product lines during the 1990s. In 1997, Ascend acquired Cascade Communications for US $3.7 Billion, to move into ATM and Frame Relay markets. Ascend was acquired by Lucent Technologies in 1999 for one of the largest mergers in communications equipment history (US $24 Billion). Ascends' stock (traded under the Nasdaq symbol ASND), was one of the strongest momentum stocks of the mid-1990s.
