Arthurs Seat, Victoria

Arthurs Seat is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Its Local Government Area is the Shire of Mornington Peninsula. Arthurs Seat was named after a prominent point in Edinburgh, Scotland, home of Governor Arthur Phillip, after whom the adjacent Port Phillip is named. It now forms part of the Nepean State Park. The underlying rocks are Devonian granite, bounded to the west by the Selwyn Fault. The vegetation consists of dry open forest of mixed eucalypt species, which was extensively burnt during the Ash Wednesday bushfires in 1993. Tourist attractions located at Arthurs Seat include the Chairlift, a Maze, 'Seawinds' Homestead, and two restaurants.
