Arthur Desmond Colquhoun Gore, 9Th Earl Of Arran

Sir Arthur Desmond Colquhoun Gore, 9th Earl of Arran of the Arran Islands, Bt (b. 14 July 1938— ) is a peer of the United Kingdom and an elected hereditary member of the House of Lords for the Conservative Party. Arran is the son of Arthur Gore, 8th Earl of Arran and Fiona Bryde Colquhoun. He was educated at Eton College and Balliol College, Oxford. He served in the Grenadier Guards, gaining the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. He was the assistant manager of the Daily Mail, then assistant general manager of the Daily Express and the Sunday Express in the 1970s. He has also been a director of Waterstones. He succeeded as Earl of Arran and its subsidiary titles on 23 February 1983, upon the death of his father. In the Lords, Arran has played an active role for the Conservatives, serving in several junior ministerial roles. Arran married Eleanor van Cutsem on 28 September 1974.
