Arrondissement In France

The 100 French dpartements are divided into 342 arrondissements. The capital of an arrondissement is called sous-prfecture. When an arrondissement contains the prfecture (capital) of the dpartement, that prfecture is the capital of the arrondissement, acting both as a prfecture and as a sous-prfecture. Arrondissements are further divided into cantons and communes. The cities of Paris, Lyon and Marseille are also divided into municipal arrondissements, not to be confused with the arrondissements dealt with in this article.
