Ari Buddhism
Ari Buddhism
is the name given to the religious practice common in
Pagan, Myanmar
prior to
Anawrahta
's rise and the subsequent conversion of Pagan to
Theravada
Buddhism
. It was a mixture of
Mahayana
Buddhism,
Brahmanism
and native religion. Some scholars are said to have claimed that it was a branch of
Tantrism
related to the
Asarya Buddhism
of
Nanzhao
and the subsequent
Kingdom of Dali
in neighbouring
Yunnan
,
China
.
