Ardche is a dpartement in south-central France named after the Ardche River.
   

History

Ardche was one of the original 83 departments created during the French Revolution on March 4, 1790. It was created from the province of Vivarais.

Geography

The department is part of the current region of Rhone-Alpes and is surrounded by the French departments of Drme, Vaucluse, Gard, Lozre, Haute-Loire, and Isre.

Demographics

The inhabitants of the department are called Ardchois.

Culture

With its rivers and streams, Ardche has become a favorite place for canoe and kayak enthusiasts from around the world. Ardche contains a part of the Cvennes National Park.
