Archway Tower
at the intersection of
Holloway Road
and
Junction Road
. The station is on the
High Barnet branch
of the
Northern Line
, between
Highgate
and
Tufnell Park
stations. It is on the boundary between
Travelcard Zone 2
and
Zone 3
(for ticketing purposes it is considered to be in whichever zone gives the lowest journey price). Originally named
Highgate
, the station opened in
1907
as one of the northern terminals of what was then the
Charing Cross, Euston and Hampstead Railway
. In
1939
, the line was extended to
East Finchley station
and the station was renamed
Archway
, with the Highgate name being assigned to the new tube stop at the
LNER
overground station of the same name.
